Fitted these last night and went out to do a comparison test for brightness and range. They did seem brighter on the ground immediately (10m or so) in front of the car - but I didn't get a chance to drive down the same bit of dark road as I had with the originals to test the range. I got a bit sidetracked within a few minutes with a Vec VXR!

I'll have to wait until it's dark again and see if I can do another comparison. I may have to swap back the dipped beams to the originals to remind myself of the reach! Oh joy!

I'm waiting for the comparison from you Duncan as if the difference is noticable I'll do mine.

Even my missus Corsa has better dipped lights than my vec so please hurry up LOL.

    - okay, okay - just for you m8 I'll battle under the bonnet and change them back over to the originals, then back to the new ones to compare!! Oh, the things we admin do for the members of the site!!

Only joking m8. I'd like to see the difference for myself. This time I'm going to take my light meter with me and see if there's any measurable difference - as well as any apparant vsual difference with the range.

    How's that?

heres an idea... why not just change one dipped beam back so you can see the difference side by side?

I could do. In fact I had thought of doing that when I first changed them but thought it may not work too well. I could stick a light meter in front of each one to see if there is a brightness difference between one and the other - but in terms of range testing I thought it wouldn't work as once you get further in front of the cars, the two beams (with different patterns) merge and if they're different bulbs it's not going to really give an accurate result.

    Unless I'm missing something?

i dont think a full rocket science test is really needed Duncan. I think just sitting in your car on a dark straight country lane etc will show up any noticable visual difference in the bulbs. Thats how most of us are interested in as i wont be taking a light meter with me whenever i go out lol.

Err, it's not a full rocket science test, just an accurate one!

To do the 'dark, straight country lane' test will need to have both bulbs replaced. The range test is the more important one for me i.e. can I see further with these new bulbs and to do that both bulbs need to be changed due to the different beams/patterns and them merging together - otherwise it's going to be a half-cocked test.

The light meter thing was simply a quick additional thing to see if there is a measurable difference with the bulbs (seeing as it's a bit of kit I have for obvious reasons) - as sometimes we make ourselves think something is different, because we want to, when it's not!

Surely a man of your photographic skills should be able to take some decent before and after shots of the two bulbs D. :-)

I hope so - it all depends how well it actually shows up on pictures! I'm heading off now (as it's now pitch black) and taking my camera with me - just to see if I can get anything that's worth showing i.e. shows a noticeable difference.

Failing that, you'll just have to take my word for it!!

lol yep but it would be interesting to see if these bulbs do actually make a difference as i fitted 50% brighter to mine and dont rate them much tbh as i cant see the big difference even on dark country roads. so if duncans got the tools and wants to use his time then i'm up for seeing the results. Might save other members wasting their cash

Oh and pics please duncan come on now less slacking
