Default Any help or advice here for a mate?

I have a mate who moved into a house with his THEN fiancee. After splitting up mutually he stayed in the house, she moved out. He payed all the fees and everything for the house. She never payed anything into the house, bills or nothing.

Now the situation.... 9 months down the line...... They agreed on a £1000 and a car for buyout to sign over the house to him. He saved up the money, now he has the money she says she wants more.

    What can he do?

    Hi

If he hasn't dnoe so already, probably best to consult a solicitor and get some kind of agreement / contract drawn up to settle this.

It sounds maybe quite a common thing to resolve.

    Best of Luck

Yup, he needs her to sign a doc declaring that she does not & will not in future have any interest in the property.

Otherwise she can keep coming back.

I would guess as it's been a 50/50 purchase then she legally owns half of the property, but as she's paid nothing towards it, your mate should be able to counter claim for 50% of everything he's spent on it Including mortgage payments. I'm sure there's a clause that helps him as she left the property voluntarily as well.

I'm no expert though, so as already been said he needs to consult legal advice. Maybe citizens advice or some solicitors offer a free half hour consultation.

The boss at work is just going through divorce now and what Alex has said above is what is going on in the boss's situation. He has ALWAYS paid all the bills with her not contributing at all. Because she is named on the mortgage she is entitled to 50% of the property. The solicitor therefore has said that my boss should persue, as Alex says, 50% of all the bills he's paid to date, which apparently amounts to round about £17,000.
