Default crank pulley problems help needed!

    Hi all
Last knight while driving home heard a knock and then battery light came on so I guessed that the fan belt had snapped but it was the pulley.
Are these a pig to get off and has anyone got a diagram of which way the belt goes on?
    thanks in advance

yes, they are a bit of a pig...the centre bolt is very very tight...you need commercial grade air tools to get them off...

also, i don't know what the parts supply is like in Eire, but the pulleys were on massive backorder..( who said it's a common fault)....

Does the engine have to be locked when using an air gun?
My mechanic cant get the nut out with his air gun, says I might need to take the car to somewhere that changes the likes of truck tyres to remove the bolt.

nope, you don't have to lock it, it's just that most 1/2" drive airguns won't touch it.. Benny on here uses a 3/4" drive gun... I had to resort to a 1" drive gun to get 'Bigmans' pulley bolt out... they are VERY tight..

cheers 1" gun had it off after 3 attempts cars all sorted now, 3/4 gun had no affect on it.
Its a tight un, I was told that the toyota avensis diesel has a similar problem with the crank pulley but the bolt head nearly always shears off, ouch!
