    Default Where do I stand????

We bought a boat in december and decided we wouldnt use it until we had the outboard engine serviced, (its an Evinrude 140hp)
So we took it to a local marine and boat "so called" specialist about six weeks ago. Serviced it and replaced spark plugs with new - Cost £180
Two days later we collected the boat and took it back to the storage place, when we started the engine it sounded worse than it did before it was serviced.

So we took it else where, on the 27th February
Yesterday we recieved a phone call to say,

1- Theres was a leak in the fuel system, Changed diaphram- Fixed
2- The carbeuretta needed attention- Fixed
3- The engine "Lost all Spark"- Fixed after further investigation
4- Had wrong Spark plugs in Engine- replaced
5- " had intermitent fault" possibly the electric control console- Fixed

they have tested it in the water and will be ready in a couple of days
Cost around £400 to put all of the above right

What should i do with regards to the ****hole who supposedly serviced it the first time round

    Try and keep suggestions legal

I'd get a written report from the second place and show it to the first. You may get cost of parts back. However, sounds like this may be more stress inducing than it's worth. I'm sure there will be lots of suggestions relating to Trading Standards etc, but in a case like this, it will be very difficult to prove anything. It will come down to 'in my opinion'.

Perhaps you should have taken it back to the place that did the original sevice and said you were not happy about it, now I think they will deny that there was any problem with it and say the "second" place is finding work for them selves by " fabricating" the faults. I think you will have problems proving the first service was not done correctly.

Reading it, I'd say they've both had you over, if the engine ran fine before the 1st company played with it, the second company report suggests all it was was the wrong plug fitted.
