Default What can be done on a 3.0 V6 CDTi?

I have a 2007 V6 3.0 CDTi Vectra Estate. Not modded in any way and I was wondering what modds a "numpty" can do that would improve performance etc that is not going to void a warranty.

panel filter like k&n and tuning box, both you can just whip out and replace original

EDIT: Also i think vxr remaps dont void warrenty

There have been issues with both tuning boxes and remaps (fuel pump problems and emission problems seem common).Certainly if it's a late (new shape) DPF model you don't want to go near either one.

i'd leave it complete standard to be honest. as dd said above, tuning boxes and remaps are a no-no with this engine. and the panel filter makes next to no difference (some may disagree) and is not a cheap mod at 50 odd quid.

A custom remap would be your best bet but all remaps invalidate the warrenty...technically.

If you only have the torque pushed up a fair bit in the mid range but leave it alone at the bottom and top (resulting in very little bhp change) it should be fine.

A custom exhaust will make it sound nice and if you really want to get some decent power reliably, might be worth looking at a water methanol kit. I get an extra 20+bhp at the flick of a button and it doesn't effect the fuel pump in any way.

I was thinking about doing this with my tuning box.

A lot of the profiles on the later boxes try to make the V6 eat too much fuel at very low and very high revs.I think it's best just to let it produce more power where it's happiest,in the midrange.

I would still have my doubts about using one on a DPF model though.

Does anybody else here have DPFs?

Just wondering because every now and then the exhaust notes go very low and bassy after the engine has been working, get a slight burning smell too. I guess that is the DPF working?

Is there not a thread on here regarding the F40 gearbox? That it is on its limits enough with the 3.0 CDTI untuned?

As the F40 has a torque rating of 400Nm and the 3.0 CDTI will push out ~400Nm.

I ran the pre-facelift with a tuning box for a while.

It felt much quicker but in the end reverted to standard as i'll probably keep it for a while. To be honest it feels much smoother & is plenty fast enough standard.

For a Euro 4 3.0 V6, DONT go anywhere near perfomance tuning. A couple of us have tried it on here which resulted in a nackered fuel pump. Was fixed under warranty, which was just as well as it would of cost around £3000 with parts and labour.
    DO NOT tune this engine.
