scraping noise from rear. rear brakes? upgrade?

1.9cdti(150) 56plate

got a slight problem and it's doing my head in now.
it's not constant so i'm not sure what to look for.

there's a scraping noise coming from the rear of the car.
when i brake from speed i notice it more. or brake at low speeds.
doesn't seem to do it inbetween?


worst case worst, if they need replacing what should i upgrade to?
are the 314mm disks a straight swap?
is it 314 front & rear or just front? if so, what's the rears?

also, any part numbers & prices would be appreciated.

Just fronts mate. Rears are only vented I think.

fronts are vented and come in different mm and the rears are one size i belive and are solid

Some gsi's are vented on the rear.

On a 1.9 CDTi (and 1.8, 2.0/2.2 DTi) the rears are 278mm solids. On the 2.0T, 3.2, 3.0 CDTi and 2.8T they are 292mm vented.

With regard to the scraping, this is something I had in the past (292mm rears on my 2.0T). Most noticeable when I reversed off the drive first thing and when initially driving at low speeds. Never found a cure for it, even after cleaning up the pads and discs. In time I needed to change the discs and pads due to them wearing. After that, never had a squeak, or scrape, out of them.
