Theres a mouse in my house!

Yep.. we have some furry inhabitants. Ive found droppings under the bath and in the back of one of the kitchen cupboards so put down a humane trap last night & this morning it was rocking backwards and forwards so I let it go on the green just down the road (the one under the bath is untouched)
Anyone have any ideas on good ways of getting rid? esp on how to block the holes? (I know they're vermin but dont know if I could use snap traps)

On another note.. just had my roof dents repaired (put another post on here a few days ago) looks pretty damned good (99% perfect) 8 dents gone, 3 hours, £130 thought was a bargain so not all bad!

Are they field mice or house mice. U need to get rid quick and baited poison is best. Used snap traps before and sometimes eneded up with two mice in one trap! Still they kept coming, used the poisoned bait and never saw one again. U need to find out where they are coming from as well. Do have a detached house or terrace/semi because they may be coming from the neighbours. We lived in a end of terrace at the time and we found out they were in someones attic 3 houses down

Maybe poison is the way forward then.. bit worried about them dying in awkward places though and stinking behind walls or something!
Its a Victorian (about 1900 ish) mid terrace and the bathroom is an extension built before I bought it and a bit lower than the rest of the house..
thinking probably house mice, quite a few houses not much greenery..

I live near a train station and panicked that it could have been rats! but luckily not..

Also just thought.. the bathroom is downstairs next to the kitchen, not seen any evidence upstairs

Baited poison is the best way...yes you may get 'that' smell for a few days but it goes away.
I live in a converted barn and mice are a regular problem.
I buy pre-baited boxes from the local farm supplies shop, about £5 each, two of them in the loft usually sorts the little beggars out.
I spoke to an exterminator to find out the best way and that is what he advised. Traps only get the adult mice, and by the time the baby mice go wandering they have babies of their own!!

The smell is a very small problem but as I said it only lasts a few days and is very isolated to the area in which the mice have died, usually within a wall or floor!

Very true.... never had a problem with mice until after our cat lost a fight with a Laguna. Now running a rodent hotel!

Well as it happens been talking about getting a mog for a while now.. hadnt even finished the sentence 'we've caught a mou...' before the girlfriend said we need a cat!

Only problem is the mouse is in the cupboard.. dont suppose I could leave a cat in there all day!

also, u can get those plug in things that make some sort of noise that only mouse and rats can hear and it detters them

Filling holes is easy, did it for my girlfriend recently when she had mice in her kitchen. Just took the kick-boards off the units and sprayed a load of expanding foam around all the holes in the floor and walls where the pipes/cables went through. No way mice will be getting in again once that has hardened.
