    Default Mobile Phones

My contract phone (samsung u600) broke on me today. Basically the touch screen buttons don't work anymore, so i phoned O2 who said they will replace the phone once i send the broken one back to them.

Anyway, the phone is sh*te and i hate it so i bought a pay as you go Sony Ericsson from Argos and put my sim card in it and it works fine.

I plan to sell the new samsung when i get it, seeing as it will be brand new and worth at least £100. I've seen these priced at around £120 with a sim card - i will be throwing one in for free

If i sold it and it had any problems, would it come back to bit me seeing as it's a replacement, as they said i can't upgrade till next January.........

dont think so once you enter into a contract with them the phone is yours to do with what you like as the mobile phone company are still getting your money every month . stop paying your monthly contracted ammount for any reason whether you have phone or not and they will have a debt collection agency on you quicker than a ferret down a rabbit hole

T4M you might be able to take it back to o2 shop and get an exchange there and then, i know you can do that with voda, rather wait for the unreliable royal mail.

i've bought a new phone anyway so royal mail can take as long as they like

tbh o2 said they wouldn't send the new phone till they got the broken one back, but i've had a few emails saying it has been despatched........

Id be careful because about 2 years ago i was on contract with 02 and didnt get on with the phone i got from 02 so i put the sim in my old phone.i ended up losing my old phone with the 02 sim in it so called 02 and they put a block on the sim in case it was stolen.i dont know how but they also blocked the new phone that i took the sim out of so that was useless. dont know how they can do it but they did.

With almost all of the mobile network providers, if you ring them to report a lost or stolen SIM or phone they will automatically block both the SIM AND Phone (the one they have records of you receiving off them last on your contract). The best way to unsure they dont do this is to specifically tell them (when you are reporting the loss) either that it was only the SIM card that was lost or stolen OR the SIM was in another phone - they dont really care which phone it is in, as long as you are still using the SIM.

If they had blocked the phone too (as in your case) they COULD be able to unblock it if you explain the circumstances to them, although certain providers will not under any circumstances.
