Thumbs up Supporting the local guy (service)

Well having been stung for £100 an hour at the local VX dealer I decided to try my local man for the Vectra service.

I can walk there in 2 mins. They only charge £45 an hour, and he used all vauxhall parts. Given the cars done 60,000 it needed new front disks + pads and rear pads. And it had an MOT.

They even cleared the engine fault codes (caused by a loose sensor connection) for "free".

All in and including the VAT it came to just under £400. Which I dont think is too bad.

For me thats a thumb up to the local guy

He sounds like a good bloke to go to. Probably has more pride in his work too.

Yeah I did contemplate that. But it's only got 1 VX stamp anyway. Then an independant and worst of all a Peugeot dealer! So I dont think i've degraded the service history too much.

I can understand the whole idea of going to the dealer and keeping a spotless service history but at the same time if you dont have a good SH anyway and if the car is out of warranty then it makes sense to use a good local garage.

Lets face it too, just because its a dealer it doesnt mean they are better technicians - we have all heard the horror stories on here. I think the best thing about a dealer is they are more likely to have seen more faults and will be able to more quickly diagnose a fault.
