Spanner light maybe a steering lock problem?

I have had a spanner light on so I went and got it read with a tech2 and it came up with a immobiliser fault. It was cleared and I got the light back as soon as the steering lock came on. I need to give the wheel a twist and turn the key at the same time if the steering lock is engaged. When this happened I got a flashing spanner thru car light. When I take the key out and try again everything is Ok and the car starts. Spanner light goes out after a second or two. Any body have any ideas? thanks

sounds more like the immobilser pickup on the column module is playing up..that would give you the flashing light...

the one that disappears after a few moments running is just a 'reminder' lamp and not a 'livefault' warning...so ignore that one..
