    Default Goodyear F1 GSD3 - 225/45R17 91Y

Just a quick thanks to all who suggested these tyres as a replacement and alternate size for my rubbish Goodyear NCT5 215/50/17's.

Saved quite a bit of money by changing to 225/45/17 from 215/50/17. As others have said more choice of tyres available, but I stuck with the recommendation of the GSD3's. Ordered them from camskill for £69.50 each including p&p (delivered next day which was a quicker turnaround time than when I've previously ordered from mytyres). I also liked the text message confirming when they were going to be delivered and to text back if I prefered a different delivery date. Local tyre garage fitted them both for £20 cash in hand.

Only had the fronts changed (will do the rears when they've worn down a bit more and can afford it). Yes, I know the recommendation is to have new tyres on the rear but I prefer fresh rubber on the fronts and nothing you say or links you point me to will change that opinion.

Back to the GSD3's though. Instantly I noticed more grip & slightly less road noise compared to the NCT5's. The steering also feels sharper and I now get more feedback through the steering wheel than I did previously.

I have however noticed that they do seem to track and tramline slightly, i.e. follow certain ruts in the road. Not sure if this is because they are new and need a bit of time to bed themselves in though?

Overall though, very impressed. Thanks again.

BD, i too just bought two GSD3's last thurs due to having a nail in each of my back NCT's. Cost me slighty more at £175 fitted, by a local garage, but i too am suitably impressed with them. The fronts have about another 6 months life before they require changing but i will be definately getting some more of these.

Good price for the GSD3's. I paid £98 a pop for the new Eagle F1 Asymetrics in that size for the Astra.

Really, driving on bare rims would be better than the NCT5s

After you've had a chance to run them for a bit I'd be interested to see if find any difference in terms of ride harshness with the 225 x 45's instead of the 215 x 50's. I'll need 4 tyres shortly and have contemplated moving to the wider size. I must be one of the few people who stuck with NCT 5's when I needed tyres last time - TBH they seemed fine to me and lasted well.

I have a GSi, but actually wanted an Elite because I was concerned the GSi suspension would be too harsh for my taste (it isn't - but I wouldn't want it any firmer). Most of my miles are either round town or on motorway so the last n% of cornering grip doesn't really bother me.

GSD3's rule. Had them on 2 cars now and the difference is noticeable - not only in the amount of raod noise but the amount of added grip in corners - would go for the GSD3 every time!!
