Red cars are a nightmare. If its going pink you'll need to get it polished. I've only seen this done with a machine polisher but the results were stunning. Not sure how effective it would be by hand.

Then you'll need to protect it. I use Nattys Red Wax on the missus red Astra following some advice I was given by a professional detailer.

There's a thread from a meeting somewhere showing the polishing. I'll see if I can find it.

edit: This is the one. http://forum.vectra-c.com/showthread.php?t=31331

The wax Iain is using is very expensive which is why he suggested Nattys Red.

if it gone really pinky red then you will need g3 cutting compound and a electric polisher (like a 9"angel grinder) with a mop head on it put be carefull that you dont burn the paint

so many products out there now, but i stuck with the one i liked best i did porsche,s red ,vw red, rs turbos, one ferrari red, many others as well as the other bad colour for fading white , the method i used was autoglym bufferfine or sometimes radiant but is not so good, with a twin headed pressure sensitive polisher, after taking it off i would use super resin or a carnuba wax to seal it or if i didnt have any autoglym supergloss its a sealer, i wouldnt try tcuting it yourselve as the amount of cars i had to fix on a monday after some bright spark thinking that polishing there car on a sunday was a good idea, there are many other products out there which can do the job , wee tip if you put on a polish that is being a pain to gome off put super resin over the top comes off a treat, p.s i dont rate any teflon coatings or the like, eg superguard , diamondbrite they really dont last for the legnth of time that they say and there a real pain to do

I once had a "Flame Red" Cavalier, and the tops of the mirrors turned into "Pastel Pink" in a couple of years of owning it, that was back in 95, but it seems that red cars just cant stop fading, even with the new technology in paint composition..........never again...nearly every Vauxhall on the road from that era is going, or is pink in patches, you would think they would have got it right by now, doesn't seem to be as bad on Fords!

Do modern "solid" paints have a clear coat like metallics?

Welcome mate. Its best if you start your own new thread rather than hijack someone else's. There is also a search facility at the top right of the forum so you can see if the subject has already been covered. Have a look at the thread below for your fault and post in there any questions you have. HTH
