    Vehicle : Vauxhall

    Engine : Z19DTH

    Year : Nosey

Question Has anyone checked the 06 Vecs specs?

The 1.9 16v seems to have lost nearly 100Kg and gained 4lbf of torque.

What do you think the chance are of Vx coming up with their own Re-Map in the future?

The VXR Performance centre opens soon in the new year, the accountants at Vauxhall want to get in on the tuning scene with approved re-maps etc, but VXR boss Stu Harris is not so keen.

As a manufacturer, they would have to ensure every re-map pass's durabiltity to be backed up with a warranty. This won't happen. It will cost Vauxhall too much money.

The Z20LET engine as fitted to the Zaf and Astra GSi Turbo is easily tuned to 240bhp, but it would not pass the GM strict durability tests, which is a constant 150 hours at full throtle with 75% load, thats 6 days!!!

To get the engine past durabiltity for the VXR models, better pistons, oil spray bar and bigger turbo had to be produced.

But for an after market tuner they don't need to do this, for an everyday driver a normal Astra/Zafira GSi turbo Z20LET will be happy at 250+BHP as it would never be subjected to the sort of punishment they get through durability testing.

My Zafira GSi now has a VXR turbo charger fitted and is perfectly reliable at 260+BHP, but if I put the engine through Vauxhall's durabilty it would break.

Just another quick one I found out, the 1.9 CDTi 150 was breaking at 195bhp in durability, but in the real world it would be perfectly safe as when driving we come across bends, traffic, other cars etc, so we could never offer this sort of punishment.

Any car that can add nearly 30% to it's power and torque and still give 64mpg at 60mph is in need of a tune up!

Come on Vx, you've got all the kit you need to remap them in every Vx garage in the country and you know people have been running with monster power and torque without any more problems than a standard version for ages now.

Makes sense! (Plus, people would pay alot for some guy to plug in the Tech 2, press a few buttons and go have a cup of tea)

Your right in what your saying, but they won't pass durability, hence Vauxhall not doing it.
