Eek The importance of regular servicing...

I am going to show you some pics of a rear brake disc from a Peugeot 206 that I MOT tested the other day. Part of the test is to jack up the rear of the vehicle and check wheel bearings for noise/roughness by spinning the wheel. as i went to do this I looked through the spokes of the wheel to check the disc and the pad thickness (less than 1mm of pad is a failure) and I thought, 'oh well, that disc has failed'. It was severely corroded, then i looked again and my jaw dropped. The disc was about 3mm thick I wrote it on my checksheet and then spun the wheel. OM FERKIN G, the disc itself stood still, being held by the pads, as the hub part of the disc spun with the wheel as expected. The disc was that thin it had actually seperated from its own hub boss. I have been in this trade nearly 30 years and I have NEVER seen brakes like that. as luck would have it, our local VOSA Traffic Examiner had left about an hour beforehand following a routine check on our depot.

Anyway, here's the pics. BTW, he had a baby seat in the back

This one below, is the centre of the disc where it should be joined to the hub boss. It was practically knife sharp

Some people shouldn't be allowed near cars.

Baby seat as well? Should've kicked him round the garage.

The sad thing is most folks don't care.... as long as it starts and gets them from a to b they don't give a monkeys if it's up to scratch. They veiw servicing as an unnessecary expense and when the car needs extra work they think you're only trying to rip them off...

Whoever fitted the last set of pads to that Pug ( or the set before even) needs hanging..thats just criminal
