Default New law on Low Emissions Zones in Germany.

I was talking to a German guy i'm working with yesterday about our trip to Irmscher and he told me about this. I think we will need to get one of these sticker's as Stuttgart is in the list.
I got this information from the AA website.
    http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice...AA_Germany.pdf

    Low Emissions Zones
From 1st January 2008, restrictions on the circulation of vehicles will be introduced in several German cities, in order to reduce the levels of emission of fine particulates in some areas. The areas where restrictions apply will be indicated by signs showing coloured vignettes ("Plakette") - green, yellow or red. To enter these areas, drivers will have to stick a vignette on their vehicle windscreen, this can be obtained from technical inspection centres or approved garages, fine for non-compliance €40.00. The owner of the vehicle (German or foreign) is required to present the registration certificate of the vehicle and pay a fee of 5 to 10 Euros. The colour of the vignette issued will depend on the type of engine and the Euro classification of the vehicle.
Owners of foreign-registered vehicles can obtain a sticker by sending an email to the Berlin vehicle registration authority at kfz-zulassung@labo.verwalt-berlin.de attaching a copy of the vehicle registration certificate specifying the emission code or a manufacturer’s certificate (preferably pdf files). Upon verification of the documents, the registration authority will send a payment request by advance email including the bank details to the applicant. A €6 administration/handling fee will be charged per sticker. The sticker will be sent to the applicant by direct mail. As order processing may take two to

three weeks, stickers should be ordered well in advance. Alternatively you can now obtain a sticker from the Cologne vehicle registration office by sending an application including a copy of the vehicle documents and €5 (cash or crossed cheque) to Kfz-Zulassungsstelle, Max-Glomsda-Straße 4, D-51105 Köln. For further information, visit
Provisional calendar of entry into force of "environmental zones" in 2008: 1st January 08 Berlin and Hannover. Hannover, foreign registered vehicles are exempt for 2008. 1st March 08 Ilsfeld, Cologne, Leonberg, Mannheim, Reutlingen, Schwäbisch-Gmünd, Stuttgart and Tübingen 1st July 08 Pleidelsheim 1st October 08 Munich For maps and detailed information, please see http://www.umweltbundesamt.de/umweltzonen

Good shout, Shan. I'll investigate and keep everyone informed.

If it's anything like the UK zones, we should all be compliant anyway, but I'll check and report back.

    Right, info here.

    http://www.germany-tourism.co.uk/EGB...sion_zones.htm

All of our cars going will need, depending on fuel, A Green petrol sticker, or Yellow or Green Diesel stickers.

They are between 5 and 10 euro, available from lots of places and will be valid for the length of our stay and any afterwards!

Details so far are a little sketchy, I'll see if Cabby can e-mail Irmscher directly and see what the score is.

Alternatively, it means we'll have to call into a garage and get a badge for our cars. It shouldn't be an issue, we'll all have our necessary documents anyway, it just means an extra hour or so sorting it out. Another plus to having an extra day travelling.

This is only needed if you want to enter the center of some cities... Berlin was the first, others followed like Köln from this month on, but I thought the Irmscher trip will not take you to one of these

Stuttgart was also one of the ones that started on the 1st March, and that's where the Irmscher factory is - so a very good chance they'll pass through, or very close to, the 'restricted' areas on their route in/out of the city or to and from the hotel. For £5/6 I think the reasoning is that it's better just to have the sticker than get caught out.
