    Default Banks.....again!

Went into bank today to sort out the standing order for my loan when i found out i still had a kids account that should have been changed.

It's now being changed to a Royalties Gold account which costs £12 a month but you get a few extras like mobile and holiday insurance free.

Anyway, it turns out that because my account was the wrong type i can get my loan repayments reduced. The woman i spoke to also said that i will get £1000 cash but needed to see my contract of employment. I came home to get it and went back down and she said that she couldn't register for something and therefore couldn't get the grand put into my account, but signed me up for a credit card which is interest free for 6 months. She then told me to do a credit check on myself to make sure my payments are in order which will cost me 30 quid!!!!!!

Sounded a bit dodgy so i will go back tomorrow and tell her to cancel the credit card and leave things the way they are. Sounded more like an extra commission job for her

Sounds like it..... If you can manage without a credit card, you're well off without one.

The grand in the bank sounded too good to be true. Was going to pay my insurance off with it but i think i'll stick to my original plan of monthly installments. I've managed fine with hardly any money for 3 months so now my tax should be sorted i will be a better off

I had a similar one with Halifax - I came in to pay a bill and they lady at the desk asked me if I'd be interested in their top account which offered 6% interest and came with all those free extras like the ones tam mentioned...

I asked if this would cost me, as no-where gives away anythign for free, and she said it was just 10 squid a month...

She also pointed out that the 6% interest was on balances up to 2500. SO my next question, was how much interst would I get if I had 2500 quid in my account for 12 months at 6% interest. Oddly enough, it didn't quite cover the cost of the account over the year...

I told them where they could stick it...

I also have a note on my account telling them not to offer me all their latest offers and if I'd like a review of my accounts, after I got plain fed up of them basically telling me I couldn't look after my own money....

This new one costs £12 a month - think i'll tell them to leave it and just give me my cheaper loan repayments!! Be something like 30 quid less a month, but 30 quid's 30 quid!!

12 quid a month adds up to 144 a year mate - it's a lot of money they're conning you out of by using fancy things like insurance etc...

They make interest off the money in your account anyway, no reason to give them an extra 12 squid a month jsut for the privelige of looking after your wonga...

AS anyone who's seen Dave Gorman's Googlewhack Adventure will attest, even 99p is serious money these days!

And if anyone hasn't seen it, I suggest you get yourself a copy - tis seriously funny...
