Claying Dangers?

I read here a lot about claying and understand the principle etc. But, surely when you clay say twice a year as some state, you would be removing/ partially removing the laquer coating on the paintwork!! I polish and wax, and agree there is still marks that I would like out, but I am a bit scared that I would strip off the laquer.

Whats all the peeps thoughts on this, possible mis-guided comment?

it's not misguided.. you should only use clay once a year.. deep marks can be machined out but all the time you are reducing paint thickness..too much work and you will go through...

if you want the marks gone, get the car machined up and then seal it and wax it..then just 'spruce' up the finish monthly...don't clay more than once a year..

you can 'damage' the paintwork by not using enough lubricant, it puts tiny little scratches into the surface.

but claying does not remove any paintwork, it is not like polishing.

what do you mean by 'marks'? if you've got scrathes in your paintwork then claying will not remove them, probably just show them up even more as the wax is probably concealing it slightly.

if its marks that look like there not coming out ask about a tauch up rather than a clay job as good as it is if you are worried about it iv not seen the marks to comment properly but my guess is to ask about tauch ups its not as bad as it sounds iv had flying collours do my rear drivers side bumper and it looks like it never happened its up to u and im the same about claying the car and its pros and cons.

the detailing clays you get 'off the shelf' are not harsh enough to cause any clearcoat damage etc.. just plenty of lube and you cant go far wrong.. just remember to check the clay for any big dirt particles and pick them out and if the clay is getting dirty, fold it into itsel so you have a fresh piece showing..

Thanks guys/Dwabo, looking at your link and reading up on the suppliers sell speak, seems that it is indeed safe to use. As long as its the superfine version. I will give it a try asap.

Claying has worked a treat on mine, no scratches and loads of dirt removed. have a look at my last few threads!

ive allways used t cut till now am going to use clay but just once in the summer when the rain stops or starts knowing brittish weather but andrew the bobby do you put it on your alloys? iv no idea at if anyones tried it

dont use it on my alloys, use a decent alloy wheel cleaner and also have supaguard alloy wheel protector.
Makes it easier to clean them
