If your cam belt and gubbins wasn't changed before 74k, you MUST do it now. Maximum life for those parts is 80k, and Vx recommend changing them at 40k.

    Maybe a new thermostat too?

the thermostat could have become stuck and its open all the time this will lead to engine takign longer to warm up.

If you can do it yourself, the kit for the cambelt and news rollers is about £60 ish over the counter at VX. They're not that difficult to do.

Thermostat is about £30and easy to do yourself, just remember to renew the anti freeze. Cambelt kit at a main dealer is about £200 but do the water pump too for about an extra £40.

TBH "Well i cant find if its been done on any service Paul so i am presuming it has been done at 40k ". That startement is asking for trouble. I'm guessing yours is the Z18XE, the belt life is recommended at 40K. It was revised from wht it says in the book.

If it was done at 40k and given that your close to 80k the one in there now is due for replacement, basically its due a new one whatever!!
