Default Think my handbrake is about to go!

Following on from numerous threads about handbrake failures, and the letters sent out by Vauxhall telling you how to apply it, (suck eggs comes to mind), i 've never had a problem with mine................................until recently.

I never bother with pushing the button in when applying it, never have done on any previous cars, but of late when applying it, it will go 'click, click, click, click and then a 'crunch, twang'!!!!!!! (That's as best as i can explain it). Sounds and feels gritty and a sound similar to a spring snapping.

Then the better half tells me that after parking it up outside the house last week, she definatley remembers applying the handbrake. She even went back to double check as she knows i'm fussy about me motor. Yep, she looked through the window and it was up. She then went back to the car a short time later to get her phone as she had forgot it and the handbrake was down! Good job it's flat outside my house and it's a forecourt so even less chance of it rolling down the street.

But it's never happened to me. She also now understands why i leave it in gear no matter where i park it.

Does this sound like the handbrake ratchet is on it's way out and has anyone had one replaced?

Snowman, you got your ears on?
