Default Help: Installing HK Drive & Play

After looking at all the options to get the iPod installed in the car I have finally decided on a Harmon Kardon Drive and Play (only £31 delivered from ebay). Hopefully it will come tomorow so fancy installing it in my lunch hour and did a bit of investigating tonight. But...

What type of aerial adapter do I need for the back of my CD30??
And how do you get that black plastic thing off to get the white aerial plug out???

Finally how do you get the ashtray out. I have pulled it but don't want to break it. It seems to be attached on the left and right sides (circled in red)?

    Thanks, Mark

Aerial adapter, not sure about the drive and play, maybe some else can advise:

There is a clip on the side of the aerial plug looking at your picture on the right side I think, just press it in and pull the aerial connection at the same time will come of easily.

Ashtray just pull gently it will almost fall out.

    InnerZone: Thanks for the reply
aerial: I didn't see the clip last night. It was dark though :-)

ashtray: Do I need to remove any other trim?
I only removed the plastic gear gaiter surround and loosened the lighter surround.
Do you pull it straight up?
I gave it a good tug and it didn't fancy moving. Maybe I should go to the gym this morning to warm up first :-)

aerial adapter: I thinks its a fakra aerial, is it know by any other name? Gonna try and find one at halfords this lunchtime.

Re the aerial (possible correction) there is a clip on the side of the black aerial plug fitting looking at your picture on the right side I think, just press it in or push it out with a small screwdriver (sorry can't remember which way it goes) and pull the aerial connection at the same time will come of easily.

To remove the ashtray remove the plastic gear gaiter surround (as you have done), the ashtray it is secured by two clips under the red circles you show, should just pull straight out and up.

The aerial is a Fakra so you might need Fakra to normal car aerial and back adapters to fit the HK which I think uses normal car aerial connectors, but you need to check.

Assuming the adapters and the HK modulator pass 12V to the car aerial it should work OK, it they don't pass 12V to the aerial you may need one of these as well, Fakra powered adapter.

When I fitted mine, it came with Fara to normal adaptors, so you're OK on that one. It also passes 12v to the aerial, so no worries there. Also be aware that you can connect to a switched 12v supply as well as a permanent one -but you don't have to. If you do, every time you switch on the car, the H/K powers up and starts playing. Next time I pull my glove box out I need to change that!

SignumPhil: Can't see any convertors in my kit. There are a couple of silver plugs with no wires. Don't know if theyre them.

Also are you wanting to change yours TO a switched feed?? or back to a permanent??

I was planning to connect the Yellow 12v and the ground via a scotchlock to the 12v and ground on the CD30 stereo harness. Then the red ACC to the Black feed on the Accesory/ciggy lighter (again using a scotch lock)

The silver plugs should be the things. I can't quite remmber what they looked like on mine, though!
the ACC one is the one that causes it to switch on/off. You can still turn it on manually, though.
I've got a Nokia car kit, so I stole power from there.

These are what came in the box. Sorry about the rubbish picture:

The two silver plugs look like ISO-DIN convertors?

I assume to use the switched power I connect all three wires up (12v, ACC and GRND)?

Sorry, I am a bit of a car electronics noob.

The two silver connectors are DIN to normal car and normal car to DIN converters, you will need the Fakra to normal and the normal to Fakra as I linked to above. The website was a suggestion not a recommendation you might get them locally in a car audio shop or dare I say Halfords.
