When speedometer reads 60mph (96.6km/h) actual speed will be 65.2mph (105km/h): 8.7% faster.

    thats a lot out
    the tyre stands 215 45 17 = 626mm high
    ......................225 55 17 = 680mm high

shouldnt you have 215/55/17 as standard, dropping the profile to 225/45/17? I'm 99% sure they are the correct sizes, have you typoed the original size? If you have then you should be fine going from 215/55 to 225/45

Just changed all 4 of my tyres today from 215/50/17 to Goodyear F1 GSD3 225/45/17 today.

Checked the speedo against the sat nav and it still reads faster than you are going, so no issues there.

I've gone down a profile but there is only a negligible difference in speed reading and mine will read even slower on the speedo. However, if you go up a profile to 55% as Chris says will make your speedo read slower than you are going and not faster like mine

Can you do the Maths Chris?

have a look at these 2 tyre calculators, the tyres you have are'nt really a suitable size, but i suppose its up to you if you wanted to run them just watch your speeds!
