Default Rear Parking Sensors - £135 X-Vision Fitted

Having just hit the rear parking bay barrier in our works car park (and putting a very small hole in the back bumper) I visited the local Vauxhall dealer asking for a price for a rear parking sensor install (The hole is where the sensor would go fortunately !!). I was quoted £135 for the X-Vision fully fitted.....or £125 supply only !!! .............Amazingly the Vauxhall dealer I bought the car from 2 months ago wanted £300 to fit the same system.

Sounds like a good deal. Any of you guys got this system and what are your thoughts.

I was going to have a go myself, as many of you have done so, but at this price it seems to good not to let them do it.

The sensors are black and are a pretty good match for the pearl black vectra I have.

? - Should I ask them to paint the sensors before they fit them to have a better colour match or take them away and paint myself and give them back to install for the £135. Not sure what they would likely charge to paint. I'll ask though !!

    Thanks

    Mike

    Default Rear Sensors

I bought the car from Nidd Vale in Harrogate and they wanted £300 for the X Vision or £400 for the VX system. Sherwoods in Darlington were £400.

The £125 is actually the VX dealer (Evans Halshaw - Felling) next to where I work in Newcastle. They have leaflets quoting the £125 install. I would suspect that other Evans Halshaw will do it for the same...but there are no guarantees.

Apparently they have a technician that has been on a course and fits these for the £135. He doesn't take the bumper off, but they showed me a few cars on the forecourt with the install and it looked good. Not totally flush but good enough to look professional. This is the kit

alternatively I have seen recommended the steelmate

The sensor looks the same (I'm not bothered with a camera)

Just be wary, looks may be deceiving. There was a member on here, also up in the NE, who had a kit fitted without them taking the bumper off. They fitted them too high up, and not far enough out to the sides, so there was a blind spot on each corner that the sensors didn't cover, and which couldn't be seen in the side mirrors.

Here's what I mean - pic of his bumper when we took it off to see how far off they'd fitted them.....

You can see how far off they were - the little black crosses I marked are where they should've been.

I'm not saying this guy will do the same, but just make sure if they're doing it without taking the bumper off that they fir them exactly where they should go, or they won't work properly.

    Default Rear Sensors

Thanks Duncan - I saw that post. Did the dealer provide a new bumper? The ones I saw fitted where he in installed to the forecourt cars where pretty much where they should be.

I will hgowever, be agreeing to the position and mark them before I let him install them, however, I might go a little lower to match in with the little accident I had (Just to the right of the number plate !

I'll post some piccies before and after.

    Cheers

cheers m8 but i`m going for new front bumper as its getting replaced on
insurance along with the front lower spoiler and my excess is only costing
me the price of the bumper and at the same time i`m getting the rear
new bumper thats got the holes for the sensors painted at the same time
so i wont have to pay out on extra painting.
