Default Is it best to clay

Is it best to clay my car before I put the magiures NXT tech wax, #21 then the p21s canuba wax, or is it not neccesary?. There are slight swirls [ i wonder if the NXT will remove the swirls], Whilst i will not be looking for " show standard", I am looking to make a very good job of it,
I hope to become as knowlageble as some of you in the car cleaning department one day.
    Thanks for any help.

    Hi Ed,

I think you are going to WAX.......SEAL........WAX, you need a polish in there to help the swirls a better way is to polish, seal then wax.........wax is always the last stage.

For swirls I think you would be better using either an All In One (AIO) cleaner/wax or a 3 step like Megs DC1, DC2 & DC3, Mothers do a 3 step aswell.

As for claying if your car has never been clayed before then yes you should clat it but inspect the paintwork first to confirm that and check out how to use clay in the "How To" section.

Another tip is to use the selophane wrapper from a cigarette packet, first rub your fingers over the paint.........should feel smooth then put your fingers inside and lightly rub them over the paintwork.........you'll notice the diference.

    cheers bryan
Would it be a good idea to put some zymol on first,[ I have some left, it is what I have been useing before], Then the NXT,#21 then the p21s, Will I be wasting my time putting two types of wax on, The bonnet feels like it could do with claying,do i need to clay all of the car, or only where it feels rough,
    Thaks for your adivce.

Ed........if your car has never been clayed before then I'd suggest doing the whole car but if you think it's OK then yeah you can target the clay to areas you think need it, the only thing I'd add is that for the very best results the "PREP WORK" is the key.

Also it's best NOT to apply #21 directly on top of a wax as it won't take very well, it is best to use a polish then #21 then wax........I would not do NXT - #21 - wax........I would polish - #21 - and finally wax.

As a rule of thumb if you are trying to get rid of swirls then you must use at least a polish or even better a cleaner/polish first as they have cutting properties whereas wax's do not have any cutting properties they are to bring out the final sheen.

PS to wax in the order you are proposing yes you would be wasting your time, best to put wax on last and couple of coats would be good.

Hi I have just been reading about maguires cleaner wax, I take it I would do better to put that on first then the #21,then the p21s canuba wax. [ so the NXT and the p21s are both wax then so they both do not need to be put on at the same time.. which is the best of the two for the final coat then].
I normaly dry the car with a very good quality chamois leather,is that a good idea?.
    Cheers once again.
