Default Aerial Problem - Please Help

    hi guys.
    bit of a dilemma here.
i took the standard vx double din cd 30 out to fit my sony.
bought the right colour of facia kit and bought a wiring kit.
turns out the wiring kit didnt have an aerial connection,so i cut off the square vx connection and made one to fit the sont.
after a wee while,i grew tired of the sony ( the way it looked in the dash.......not the sound ) and refitted the cd 30.
as i butchered the aerial connection,i rejoined the square one to the wires.
the player works fine , except for the radio stations...........fm is a bit crackly and there is no mw stations at all.
can anyone tell me what i've done wrong ( i phucked it yes ) but how do i fix it?
went into vx parts dept ( woods west calder ) today and they couldnt see anything on the parts list for a new plug.
    please help me guys.

do you have a picture of the 'butchered wires? The reason i ask is that you probably have not connected then the correct way around, or the shield is missing. Normally an aerial cable is a coaxial, and the outer braid (shield)needs to surround the inner core, to stop interferance.

A picture may say a thousand words.

i dont have a pic buddy sorry.

the only wire ive butchered for want of a better word is the aerial wire itself.

    no other wires.

Hmmm, the cable sould have a smaller copper wire in the middle and a braided (copper mesh) on the outside. If this is the case then make sure the centre wire is connected to the centre wire and the braided (outside cable) is connected to the outside.
Make sure you have no stray wires shorting out.

The best way is to connect the inner wire, then wrap it in tape, then connect the outer wires (braided) then cover the whole lot with another piece of tape.

Agreed, what he said. Coax is a bit unforgiving when joined.

You didn't need to cut the wire!!!!!!!!!!!

All you needed was an aerial adapter and they only cost a few quid, god knows how much VX would charge to get it fixed......

there were a couple of strands from the outer core touching the centre core.

as i was in the garage at night doing the butchering,i never noticed this.

    all sorted now.
