    Vehicle : Insignia Grand Sport

    Trim : DESIGN

    Engine : 1.5T (165)

    Year : 2018

    Mileage : 220

    Default Advice please

My Edition 100 just passed the MOT.

    However I have two advisories:-

    1. Offside rear shock absorber has a slightly reduced damping effect
    2. Offside rear shock absorber has a slight misting of oil

I have read that a car will fail an MOT if the shock absorber is leaking, so does that mean that the shock absorber is not leaking?

So should I continue driving until it becomes clear that the shock absorber is not doing its job, or do something now? My next service is due in October. Is it likely to be OK till then?

One of the rear shock absorbers (presumably the other one) was changed under Network Q about 18 months ago. I don't want to replace both or replace them all (front and rear) for non-VX, as I don't want to change the springs either, all for reasons of cost. Am I right in saying it is not advisable to have non-VX shock absorbers at the rear and VX shock absorbers at the front?

What price are VX rear shock absorbers (SRI standard sports suspension)?

    Thanks for any advice.

Sounds to me like you need new rear shocks mate, I wouldnt bother with VX shocks either, give your local Eurocarparts a ring and order some Bilsteins (app £70pr) if you order OE you keep your original springs.
One note shocks should only be replaced in axle sets, and if any dealer has replaced just one they are not fit to polish my shoes.

sounds like they have not gone yet, but will go anytime soon. Not sure about the 50/50 split between VX and Non VX though.

Thanx for advice. Just ordered a pair of B4's from:

    here

    £34.90 each inc. VAT

Incidentally, fronts are £44.00 each inc. VAT

    Feel better now

Thanks also to Shunter for the heads-up. The power of Forum Search!

I don't think so. Prices I was given were for my 2004 SRI. I have heard that the facelift fronts are more expensive than pre-facelift due to changes made supposedly to improve the handling.
