    Default 2.0T Astra

    Was thinking of chucking in the vec for an Astra and was interested in the 2.0T, just got a few Q's if anyone can answer:

    What is the BHP of the 2.0T, i read somewhere it was 200?

    Will it be any cheaper to run than my 2.2 direct vec estate?

    Is a remapped 1.9CDTI a better choice? It will be more espensive to buy but will the fuel savings make up for that?

    Cheers!

    There were three 2.0T engines that appeared in the Astra. Z20LEL - 170bhp, Z20LER - 200bhp and the Z20LEH (I think) - 240bhp and what's in the VXR. I don't know when and in what spec the other engines appeared.

    Not sure what mpg it gets TBH.

    A remapped 1.9 could be a close alternative, although the 2.0T would still have the upper hand. But if you got a 200bhp 2.0T you may as well remap that and then it'd definitely be quicker. Depends what's more important to you, outright power/speed or economy.

    I'm sure some other guys on here will be able to add more input, but you'll definitely get all the info you need on www.astraownersclub.com if you're stuck. Good club, run by a nice guy - Matt Guest.

    I take it you don't need to carry much then if you're going from a Vectra estate to a Sport hatch? lol

    Here we go, I remembered Matt had posted up this info.....

    Z20LEL = Astra H SRi/Design 2004-2006 - 170PS/184lb/ft
    Z20LER = Astra H 5 dr SRi and Zafira B SRi - 200PS/196lb/ft

    All the above engines are mechanically identical but with different mapping

    Z20LEH = Astra H VXR and Zafira VXR 2005 to present - 240PS/238lb/ft

    LEH is the same design/looks and compression ratio as all the above, but has high yield forged pistons, oil spray bar, uprated head casting, uprated turbo and no balancer shafts. All the engines abobe use a KKK K04 Turbo, with the VXR Z20LEH being higher spec.

    Cheers Duncan. The one im looking at is a 2004 SRi 5 door model (hopefully its the Z20LER). Its only an idea at the moment - if someone can convince me to keep the vec then i probably will.

    I do love the vec but ive got to be practical about it. Ive found its just too big when most of the time its just me in the car with nothing in the boot except a sub. I thought it would be handy for carrying big loads and when going away at the weekends but the amount ive done that in the last year doesnt warrant the estate.

    I know the signums are based on the estate floor plan but do they feel any smaller?

    I want something thats smaller in size, gets slightly better MPG, and a bit faster than what ive got.

    I'd go with the Astra sri cdti 150. You will get good economy and reasonable performance. My cousin had a 2.0 turbo and found it really thirsty!!

    I'd say they do - they're a few inches shorter for starters. Smaller boot than the estate (with the seats up), but more space in the back seats - so you don't feel like you've got a big empty , not being used, space in the boot - if you see what I mean. But with the advantage that if you do want to carry a load, the seats fold completely flat (which I don't think the estate do?) and you have one large completely flat load space.

    Given where you are, you're welcome to nip down here and have a go in mine if you're not able to try one out where you are.

    And you could still get the 1.9 engine if that's what you were after.

    Thanks for the offer Duncan. BTW The estate seats dont fold completely flat but are not far off.

    I dont really know what to do at the moment, i need to speak to the finance company as well, to see if i can swap it then see what theyve got in stock. Or i think they'll let me find a car myself and they will then finance it.

    Hmmm I think i'd actually prefer the signum becuase ive always prefered them to the vec (but couldnt get one at the time in my budget), its just i had a go in an Astra the other day (1.8 140ps) and really quite liked it!

    It would seem the signum would be the perfect compromise between the vectra and astra though...

    Z20LEL = Astra H SRi/Design 2004-2006 - 170PS/184lb/ft
    Z20LER = Astra H 5 dr SRi and Zafira B SRi - 200PS/196lb/ft

    Both these engines are exactly the same. The LEL can have the LER map fitted by the dealer via tech 2 if yours will do it for you
    Now I need a turbo to keep up!
