dump valve?

my friends keep saying put a dump valve on my car and i do i like the sound of them ( i had one on my impreza wrx i use to own ) do they work on diesels? help im confused my brain hurts

someone I knew put one on a Focu TDCi - sounded like an HGV lettin off its airbrakes - pressure was really high

Its electronically controlled. I fancied one then couldnt be arsed with wiring up and the extra parts

You can fit a dump valve to diesels but there isn't really that much point. As Diesels have no throttle valve (Inlet direct to cylinders) you won't get the closed throttle pressure build up of a Petrol Turbo and therefore no gains/advantage.

To use a dump valve on a diesel involves wiring in a microswitch, usually to the throttle pedal, to activate the solenoid to open the dump valve (to dump the excess boost).

They don't give any more bhp or torque, but they can, if adjusted correctly, quicken the spool up (slightly) of the turbo through the gears.

Search for 'dump valve diesel' to bring up a few threads. Nutron fitted one. Not sure what it did for him, or whether he's got it on his current car - you'd need to read through the threads. I think others may have fitted them too.

On a diesel, it seems a lot of faff for no real benefit from what I remember.

Can you get them that make your engine sound like a Ferrari V12 as well? LOL

The other alternative is of course is to sell the Vectra and buy an 'Impreza'.They're jolly good fun,but gutless as hell and love petrol stations.

i had the impreza wrx import running 330bhp at the wheels it wasnt gutless at all it scared me to death but i agree loved the petrol stations loved the sound to death use to make people jump and heads spin very good fun

"Gutless" in the way that unless you had 4,000 rpm on the rev counter nothing really much happened when you hit the gas.There has to be some trade off for all that top end poke I guess.Great fun when you're in the mood,irritating as hell when you're not.

it will i know it does and im not saying a word but no switches needed and how to is it part of a bigger ongoing plan it's all hush hush and i dont know anything about it anyway but here is a littel tester for you all to see
