    Default GSi AT-5 auto box

As this 5 speeder is supposed to be "adaptive", HTF does this box learn your driving style

Whatever happened to having an economy switch and a sports switch? Round town, I want early changes but out on the twisties, I need the opposite.

To put this in perspective, I've been driving the motor pretty hard this week with no town driving. Had to drive in town tonight and each change was at about 3000rpm. Now before it had a weeks thrashing, it used to change up at c.2000rpm round town when coaxed gently.

Now the thrashings over, I want my lazy 2000rpm box back but Vauxhall with their £Billion design team, won't let me (unless you know otherwise)

Never driven an auto - and this is why you have no real control over the gear changes, yeah you can have 'SPORT' and 'ECONOMY' but Auto's are just that - they are Automatic. The gearbox decides how much acceleration is required - as autos are from what i experience for traffic jams and town driving.

Vauxhall speaks a lot however of kickdown, you push the throttle very quickly and the revs should rise and change at full revs for maximum power, i assume you are doing this but the box is not 'getting up and going'?

Page 180 describes kickdown, but this is for 2008 models, but i imagine the principle is the same.

Press the accelerator down fast and hard, and you'll get a two gear kickdown.

A more gently press down with give a one gear kickdown or gentle acceleration.

Would this be the case with the Auto box on a Vectra CDTi 150, seems it doesnt like to change as early as I would like.

To get over this I use the triptronic feature and change it myself.
