    Default Water pump

Hi, can someone tell me if the water pump is easy enough to change armed with a Haynes manual & if any special tools are required?

    Cheers

the answer is yes..it's just a bigger cambelt job thats all....

So, arm yourself with a locking tool for the top pulleys, torx sockets and insert bits, allen keys and a 13mm spanner and you're off..,, follow haynes to get the cambelt off, then remove the back plastic shroud..the rear timing belt cover.

the pump has a tab on the side of it..EXACTLY mark it's location onto the block either side of it so the new one goes back in the same rotational angle..undo the 3 screws and then tap the old one to break the rust seal.. it may take some persuading to come out....you will also drop out all your coolant

before fitting the new pump, clean up all the mating surfaces with sandpaper to remove all rust/old sealant.

new pump..fit o ring to it and the smear on some sealant ( hermatite or hylomar or RTV sealant) and locate pump in EXACTLY the same rotational angle as the old one..refit securing bolts and tigthen down evenly..replace rear cover again..now just rebuild with either a new cambelt kit, or old parts..but i'd fit a kit while i'm in there.. approx time..1 hour more than the cambelt to allow for probs..

you should really fit a new cambelt as it not advised to re-fit the old ones as it could snap under new tension setting as i have found out in the past

Thanks guys. Spoke to my mate about it & from what I said he thinks the head gasket could be knackered aswell. Had steam/smoke coming from the engine & no coolant left in the tank (warning light didnt come on) when I filled it up again the water is just leaking out the bottom of the engine, I guess its coming out the water pump? So probably going to be a pricey job

well the pump will only be about £20..so fit it first , then worry about/attend to the head gasket....and don't forget to check the rear coolant pipes/gallery for leakage..
