Default Pulled over for 77 in a 70, whatever next!

Yes you read right, although not ticket.

Long dual carriageway. Come up behind police Astra doing the customary 5mph less than the speed limit. He pulls into inside lane, slows down a bit more. I carry on my way and pull into inside lane. He then pulls out again, gets 100 yards in front of me then slows down to about 63 in the outside lane, so I end up passing him on the inside, at 70mph. Comes behind me, light on, predictable. I stayed in the car, as per MLC's advice from before.

Copper: do you know the speed limit?
    Me: Yes.
    Copper: What is it?
    Me: 70.
Copper: You were doing 80 at one point
Me: The most I have gone is 76.
    Copper: Slow down in future.

I was pulled over at a junction, which he then pulled OFF of to join the carriageway, where as I did it legally and crossed the roundabout to re-join.

He then drove most of the way in front of my sitting with his inside wheels slightly crossed over the centre lines. Sorry, but I think my driving was safer than his in this case.

How stupid can you get? He, in my view, was just playing a bit of a game. The boys in blue will note from previous posts about being "tugged" that I've always played fair and been straight, but this guy got no more conversation out of me than he deserved. He even drove past a car in the hard shoulder with hazards on - surely thats more of a risk than me even if they are not obliged to deal with breakdowns...?

Sorry fellas had to rant this out! Done!

Maybe he wanted to admire your car close up?

Was he full traffic or just a panda mate?

Was he on his own or did he have a colleague?

Did he have VASCAR to accurately check your speed?

It sounds like he just wanted to you breath on him (time of year and all that).

yes ...... ive met these officers b4 .... just a little fun for them ..... or.... maybe blowing off a little bit of steam ..... might have had to deal with a nasty crash involving a car doing 5 mph over the limit ????

there always is more than we read into it , although its not nice to be pulled and told off !!!!

but the number plate issue still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth , although i was told that i couldn't deface the plate when i made payment for it , so i dont really have a leg to stand on either

Just a couple of points worthy of mention.

A Police Officer on his own in a Panda car can still do you for speeding , all he needs is another means of corroboration, which will be the Pandas speedo, which will be checked by a Traffic Officer afterwards, using a stopwatch along a predetermined stretch of road. The TO will then make a statement to the fact that he checked the Pandas speedo and that statement will be entered as evidence.

The VASCAR unit does not 'accurately' check your speed, it stands for 'Video, Average speed computer and recorder.

However, I think your right Alex, I think he was just after a sniff test.

VASCAR (actually VEHICLE average speed computer and recorder ) is essentially a speed, time distance calculator. It measures the time a vehicle takes to pass over a given distance, giving the speed.

THis time of year, any excuse for a sniff is taken. Don't take the bobbys attitude to heart, everyone has a bad day.

Northumbria always refer to it as Video or Visual average speed computer and recorder. I guess each force has its own term of phrase for it.

Yep, panda astra Alex. But you guys are probably right, just after a sniff of my breath for which I am all for. Chilled ten minutes after my first rant so no probs. Thanks for your calming words of wisdom chaps.
