    Default Cleaning Kit Suggestions

    Guys,

As covered by many topic on this part of the forum i would like your thoughts on a kit for cleaning my car.

I usually use autoglym shampoo on bike/car followed by autoglym polish but ive heard that it isnt that good.

What i would like is a good wee kit of everything i will need (will buy seperatly) willing to spend around 100 quid. I have loads of clean rags for polishing but not sure if they will be too abrasive.

Any suggestions? and how do i use this clay stuff everyones going on about?

    Cheers

    Hi there,

You want a kit, it depends on how much time you want to spend cleaning your car, you can get all in one (AIO) products which clean, polish and wax, I prefer to use individual items and I do something like this: -

    Wash (2 bucket method)
    Clay (see link)
    Clean (Megs #80)
    Polish (Megs #3)
    Seal (Megs #21 usually x 2)
    Wax (Megs #16 or P21s)

Then I wash once a week and apply a coat of Spray Wax.

You may not be familiar with all the megs numbers so you could either go with Meguiars cleaner wax (AIO) or if you want to spend a bit more money then the DC 1, DC 2 & DC 3, then wash and use Spray Wax once a week and bob's your uncle.

As for rags ..........Microfibre cloths are what you want just remember when you wash them not to use fabric softener and do not tumble dry them.

Here is a link form the "How to" for using clay: -

Also I would suggest using up yur AG products before splashing out any more cash there is also Mothers polish and waxes which are also good........there's lots of good products out there really.

Yeah I too would like to have a proper kit for cleaning the car inside and out. Never used clays before just shampoo and a polish.

Bryans way is an excellent way to get into the proper way to start looking after your car properly, although the only critisim i would say is bryan is on commision from meguiars (only joking)

seriously though, use Bryans advice then when you get into the habit of detailing your car like that you can start to look at expanding into other products, mix and match and find which work for you best.

Yeah Andy the rule of thumb is "find something you like and use it often" I only suggest Megs because I'm familiar with the product range and application etc..........commision I wish

I did get some Mothers stuff the other week but haven't had time to try it cause unlike you lot I have to work over Xmas and the NEW YEAR

But here is a real list: - http://www.autopia.org/forum/faq.php...t_decoder_ring

    Take your pick eh

    Bryan

PS if you were to go down the multi stage route then the AIO cleaner wax would be good for doing the door jams, inner wings, rain water gutters in the boot and wheels etc!
