    Default K&N Air Filter upgrade, ECU Reset?

    Just fitted a K&N panel air filter to my 1.9 cdti veccy then proceeded to take the '+' terminal off the battery and my alarm went off! Thought thats what i had 2 do, any1 know what im doing wrong?

    You have to switch on the ignition, loosen the + terminal, then remove key and within 15 secs, whip off the battery terminal.

    Anyway, why did you take off the +ve terminal?

    Normal (and safe) practice is to disconnect the -ve....

    Why do you need to even disconnect it when changing the air filter? (Warning: rmt - minimum knowledge man! )

    By disconnecting the battery, you reset the ECU and it can adjust more quickly to the increased airflow through the new filter. You don't need to do it, but it would take the ECU much longer to adapt, and you wouldn't notice the change as quickly.
