Noooooooooo!

Goint to a wedding on thursday, family has requested that my new Vec be used to ferry bride and groom away. Being used in convoy with the father-in-law's rover 45

.

All week he has been badgering me to help him clean his car. So today i set the full day to detail the car (he can't understand how you can spend moe than 20 mins cleaning the car - alarm bells start to ring).

I come down stairs ready to start and see him already outside starting on his car:
Fairy Liquid, single bucket with the sponge lying on the drive, cif cream at the ready and a kitchen sponge with scourer for the brake dust on the alloys. "ill start on yours if you want".

Luckely he hadn't touched my car but i think my haisty refusal of his help may have offended! I explained my process and showed what i use. He just didn't understand!

Just a heads up, never let the father-in-law clean the car.

lol...at least he didnt take the scouring pad and the cif to your paintwork...

My FIL used to clean his old Saab with fairy liquid and AJAX

for the marks that the sponge would not shift

It was a dull sort of "white" colour and he did this for the 19 years he owned it.

He is exactly the same when i try to explain how you are "supposed" to clean a car

MMMmmm - FIL came to help fit stair gates 6 years ago as I was out and the missus been the missus wanted em. I came back just in time to see a circular saw drill bit been used on my wall right through to the breeze block.

As of this week I'm patching it back up as the gates are down yay.

19 years isnt bad. I get this mental image of it scrubbed down to bare metal, no paint left whatsoever...

my dad cleaned the alloys on my mams new nova gsi with a scouring pad to get the brake dust off. when i went round to the house he says to me that he had a really hard time getting it off and what did i use on my supersports alloys. when i went outside i just stood aand stared in total shock. paint on all four new alloys totally trashed.

My FIL is fantastic at washing cars - his BMW 535M Touring was used for a wedding, he fully detailed it, taking around 10 hours on it... then realised he had to drive a few hundred miles to the location.....

... he looked odd at the service station half way there with a car entirely covered in clingfilm!!!

My sons mate debadged his boot.Then used a scouring pad and fairy liquid to get rid of any glue that was left.Looked like he had sandpapered it.One respray needed
