Default Exhaust fitment 3.2 Gsi to 2.2 Sri

    Can anyone help.

I Have a 2.2 petrol Sri and I only have a single sided exhaust ;(
But I have obtained a very low milage Gsi system. This is cat back to both tail pipes as I know the front pipes and cat are different to mine.Like the old Vec Bs will the centre box etc be the same size bore as the Sri and bolt straight on? I know all the hangers on the car are there and the rear boxes are the same so need some advice before I pull it all to bits.

    Cheers Chaps

Hi mate, i had this problem on my 1.8 when i fitted a twin exit 3.2 gsi system from the cat back, i think the gsi bore was 55mm and the 1.8 was 45mm, and i brought a stepped down peice of stainless tube from my local motor factors, they have them in all sorts of sizes, hope this helps

i did exactly the same mod on my old 2.2 - the original exhaust was cut just after the middle box - gsi system measured up and welded on.

mate did it for me in no time at all.

good luck with the mod - defo makes a big improvement to the rear end!

If you look under the your current exhaust back box you will see that there is a heat shield fitted to the body work. You will need to get the heat shield for the other side before you fit it from VX.

Any good exhaust place will be able to fit your new system, a lot easier that trying to get under the car with ramps/axle stands etc. Worth giving them a few quid!

Well got the exhaust on and all is well.
Just for anyone who may want to use the Gsi system you will need a bit of welding skills.

Look at the pics below and you can see the problem. The Gsi centre box is half the size of the Sri one.To get around this a length of stainless pipe was made up and fitted. The bore of the Gsi system was a few mm thinker but it wasnt a major issue. I did not bother with another heat sheild as I dont think not having one will cause any problems

The Gsi system is the shorter of the two. I have noticed the sound is the same but it appears drive a little quicker of the mark. This may be due to the smaller less restricter centre silencer. All I need now is a rear valance as I cut mine but not to happy with it.

So basicly I answered my own question.A Gsi system is not a staright fit on a 2.2 Sri

Well done. On the subject of the heat shield you might notice that the petrol filler pipe is near to the rear box plus other bits. Would suggest you do get the shield as VX fit it for a reason, otherwise wooooosh
