Default Viewed a Vectra C this weekend...

Oweing to the sunshine this weekend, we went out for a drive in the Astra, and without much resistance (from SWMBO or the kids) we ended up at various "Arthur Daley"-esque establishments kicking tyres & asking "what's the mileage". My mileage is now creeping up past 30k/year, so I need something more presentable & comfortable than the Alfa. The Alfa has been a great car, but it's not very comprimising - hard suspension, uncomfortable seats, and limited passenger & load space. And the missus won't drive it

Saw some stuff of interest - 2004 Vec LS 2.0DTi with 50,000 miles on it for £6k, 2002 Vec Elite 1.8 with 70,000 miles for £5k.

I loved the Elite - it was an exceptionally clean car, with an excellent base spec compared to my old Exclusiv. Shame it was a) petrol and b) expensive.

I also cast my eye over a very smart 2004 Peugeot 407 HDI with 85,000 miles on the clock (it was a surprisingly stunning car with a great spec), £5.5k, and a 2004 Saab 9-3 1.8t for £7k (yikes) - again, shame it was a petrol & expensive!

I also had a look at a couple of Mondeo Diesel's - an '03 pre-facelift & a '53 facelift (which I quite liked) - the spec was reasonable on either, with the facelift having cruise & climate as well as the usual gubbins (& hubcaps).

I guess I'm going to start looking more earnestly for a Vec DTI Hatch in either SRI or Elite form (or just a general high-spec one) - it'll need to be from a dealer who will take the Alfa in p/ex. If anyone sees anything, post a reply! Thanks.

Avoid the Pug, my mates had 5 turbo's on his 54 plate one, if you're looking for a Vectra on a 04-54 plate I'd recommend you get a 2.0 DTi.

That's worth knowing - cheers for the tip.

Vectra or Signum will be on the cards I think - I have never owned a Ford, nor do I have any overwhelming desire to! Signum's seem very thin on the ground, which is a pity

Keep an eye out for any design models too, they are between the sri and elite in spec.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Cool! Signum's seem to be well-specced anyhow, so I guess any of them would do

Get the 2.2 dti you wont be disappointed, plenty of power and excellent fuel economy.

www.cargiant.co.uk in Uxbridge usually have a good selection of Vecs to look at.
