Exhaust noise

My new exhaust was meant to be quiet. Its got a nice tone when idleing and setting off etc, but sitting at 75mph, ie between 3-3500rpm its got the most irrating drone ive ever heard. Take it to 85mph, ie nearer 4000rpm and it goes quiet.

Will it quieten down and get more pleasurable on motorways, or will it just get louder?

I thought that they got louder when the baffles settled in, but i am no expert, I am off to powerflow next week for a chat, found another dealer who is open to negotiaton, will have to speak noise with him, I put a janspeed on my last car, the novelty soon wore off !

It should quieten down as it carbons up Andy. I used to be an area manager for a well known fast fit outfit many moons ago and the number of people bringing cars back to complain of just that which you're on about was unbelievable.

oh i hope so.... ive even rang kwikfit to see how much a new standard box is but they dont list them yet

I suppose Vauxhall has not released the design to exhaust manufacturers yet with them all being so new. Mind you 52 plates will be out of warranty soon so it won't be long I wouldn't have thought.

My exhausts have got a little louder, but as my car is a Diesel it's just a pleasant little rumble. I quite like it.

The fitter who fitted them said that a Petrol version would be louder.

strangly, its a lot quieter this morning. Just a nice little purr. I'll see how it develops. The big test is today, the wife is home from a hen trip.....
