    Question Sound deadening roof?

Don't really want to start down the very expensive, laborious and time consuming route of sound deadening but I'm starting to get fed up....

At certain frequencies, must be a particular bass note because it only happens on some tracks, not others, I get the world's most annoying rattle from somewhere up near the ultrasonic sensors in the roof lining.

If I gently(ish...) push the sensor, the rattle stops, but I can't very well drive around with my hand pressed against the roof!

Any suggestions apart from pulling down the headlining and filling the whole lot with expanding foam? I'm really looking for a cheap fix here, the cost of sound deadening a Vec estate would be frightening!!

    Ta

get a small bit of foam to take up the space behind the sensors .

you may find that it may be the hole light unit and pocket,, it may not be screwed up tight

always start with the things that cost nothing then move on from there

Does that part just pull out like the sunglasses holder, or is it properly fixed?

The ultrasonics just pull down like the sunglasses holder but the light unit is held up by 3 torx screws (t10 I think) undre the light cover.

in my opinion, if you're serious about your bass then sound deadening should be the first thing you should do. you can get some thick stuff for the roof if you need it but the boot floor and lid would benefit greatly from a bit of brown bread/dynamat/sludge or a combination.

Usually those sorts of rattles are down to loose screws or even the cabling vibrating on the panels, just comes down to a bit of trial and error when it comes to sorting it out. Maybe a small bit of dynamat on the roof panel or even the light unit might sort it out? Like I said trial and error!
