ESP/TC torque reduction - how?

Hi all,

When ESP/TC decides that it can't control the vehicle just by braking wheels, it sends a "torque reduction" request to the engine management system.

I've seen somewhere that this isn't achieved by closing the throttle valve, so how is this implemented?

On the old v6's the used to do it by 'shutting off' one or two cylinders by not letting the coil pack spark that cylinder..immediate power reduction..

Must cut the fuelling as well. If not, and if just the 'spark bit' is not done, then unburnt fuel down the exhaust pipe, onto catalyst and not a good situation, having the exothermic reaction destroy your expensive cat.
