Default Front driver side spring noise

    hi all,

when i turn the car wheel staionary or at slow speeds i get a noise from D/S wheel, got mrs to turn and i then held the spring which was making the noise. a sort of groaning/stuttering noise,

the plastic mods have been done any clues as to what?

is there a bearing in the strut that can be greased or something?

you can remove the strut and grease the top bearing if you have the kit to disassemble the strut..you can also clean out and grease the lower spring pan as well to help the spring move in the pan....both should cure the problem...my bet is the lower pan..

    cheers gsi
you say kit so iam assuming spring clamps? to remove top where bearing is

or just drop the strut & clean out out the lower spring pan(where plastic mod is)?

    yep, spring clamps..

you'll need them to pull the spring up to get the groove under the spring cleared..then clean and grease it..

it'll aslp let you pull the top bearing down enough to split the track and shoot some spray grease in there..

    will give it a go, i know a m8 with a them,
but what about, as a quick fix
jack it up & give it a blast with pressure washer to remove dirt etc

    then spray in some lube?

    worth a shot?

tried the easy way but still a noise as if the springs groaning & trying to turn.

i take it this bearing alows for rotation & that is possible cause of the noise?

just trying to get it right in head before dismantling

Yes, that's correct. Just done mine but for different reasons.

My suggestion is to use copper grease in the top bearings because the ball bearings don't travel enough to move the grease around effectively. Copper grease (copper slip) doesn't congeal like normal grease in cold conditions. It maintains a more constant viscosity. The old grease in my top bearings was like a thick paste just pushed to outside of the bearing casing where it wasn't doing diddly for the ball bearings.
