Default Changing Battery in Immobilser/Alarm Unit

    Hi All
Can the battery be replaced in the Immobiliser/Alarm unit, Ive got a quote fron Vauxhall they say the battery low and causes the alarm to trigger off and need to replace the entire unit which will cost 150 pounds.. seems steep for a battery isnt it??

    http://forum.vectra-c.com/showthread.php?t=39994 - should help.

It's not the battery they've quoted for changing, it's the whole siren unit as it's a sealed unit.

I haven't seen the unit, but if it is similar like Saab's, maybe this "how2 replace the theft alarm batteries" will help: http://home.datacomm.ch/saeuberli/fi..._batteries.pdf

That's completely different to the VX one - it's just a siren (sealed) and lives behind the rear quarter panelling. Saying that, it may be sealed, but I suppose there are ways of 'unsealing' it and getting the relevant batteries like on that Saab.

Yep, I expect it would be possible to do similar yourself, well I would try, lol.
    I can't believe the siren is £150 !!!

In normal use it will use the cars main battery, but it will also have its own "back up" battery, for if the car battery should be disconnected for example.

Good question! It's definitely got it's own internal batteries, but I'm not sure if it uses the car battery normally, and the internal ones are only used if the battery is disconnected.

    EDIT: Just seen GG's post.
