no real definate mileage..just when it starts to make a noise..

keep it regularly serviced , like every 10,000 miles, and it'll go forever..

oh, and to the forum BTW..

    Vehicle : Focus

    Trim : Titanium

    Engine : 1.6 TDCI

    Year : 62

    Mileage : 9K

I thought timing chains are meant to be maintanence free, not like a belt which has to be changed every 60k. Am i talking rubbish or have i got the wrong chain.

I am wondering if its this chain thats making my engine noisy in this area?

Does the timing chain need servicing or changing or something?

The chain should last the life of the motor in theory, however its not always the case.
Poor servicing, heavy towing & just generally abusing the motor will cause the chain to streatch & become noisy - that's when its time to change it.

My old vecB sri dti had over 115,000 miles on before it left me. no chain issues at all.
