Hi guys, just recently when starting the car, i've noticed that where the tripometer is, when i turn the key to two, it displays what looks like InSP, then reverts to miles when the engine is struck...

maybe its me been paranoid, but i interpretated it as Inspect or something...anyone know what it is, or is it a glitch...

Means it's telling you it needs a service, either due to time since last one, or mileage done.

I'm sure that I have read in the handbook that it can sometimes display that when starting the car but as long as it doesn't stay on its not a problem..

It comes on on my car too, so i got in touch with my vx dealer, as mine is not due for a service till march next year, nor has it done the mileage, they said, not too worry about it, it most likely was set at manurfacture to come on at 12 months [ which it did] rather than at 20,000 miles, they said they would reset it when i have it serviced as if i had it reset now it would through it all out of sync"

Vectra Service lights, must be one of the biggest design faults on the car, everyone is confused about when to get their cars serviced now !!! Could they not have just given them a 2 year interval and be done with it

I was told that the ecu makes a "mental note" of your driving style and then tells you when it needs a service, ie if you do a lot of motorway driving it will have a longer period before it needs an oil change, where as if you do short stop start journeys then the oil needs to be changed sooner, but yes it does confuse us all when the INSP warning comes on at start up, and we know it is not due for a service,
Yes when mine came no it must have looked stupid when i went to my dealer and asked to book it in, he aske the mileage and tha age of the car, and said what are you doing here it does not need servicing for another 12 months, even though the car said INSP,

That is the theory behind it, in practice most people are either driving with the service light on as it has come on too early, or have had it reset in the middle and are due a service before it comes on ?

Mine came on 3 months after a service and I had to argue with the dick head behind the counter, it needs a service he kept saying, quoting all the driving style stuff, eventually they reset it for me (this is after having my dash replaced because of a faulty service light *lol*)

It makes you wonder if all this technology is more of a hinderance than a help.

If it's anything like my Wife's Astra -G and the Insp imesage is staying on for 5 - 10 seconds and you are sure it does not need servicing - when you start the car up, press and hold the trip mileage button on the dash it should clear the problem. It does sometimes change the mileage to K/M, if it does, just do the same again. This was shown to me my helpful dealer.
