Default Whats happening with the Haynes Manual...

Right I looked on Amazon & Haynes and the book is out of stock (already). Mark the Cabby kindly started a group buy way back yet I see no word on price and dispatch date. Anyone have any up-dates on this......

    http://www.haynes.co.uk/webapp/wcs/s...2363&langId=-1

The cover features a pre-facelift and does'nt inculde a few engine's 2ltr petrol, V6 etc. My feelings that a lot of the orginal people who put down their names on Marks list may not want to go ahead.

What are people's thoughts on this....

Hi, I bought the new manual a couple of weeks ago via Amazon, but not from them but one of their 'other linked suppliers/dealers'. It was chaeper than the new Amazon price and included postage, was stated to be used, but actually it came sealed in the original plastic so I assume it was new.

I have glanced through it and it covers what I need for my 2.2dti Siggy with respect to the engine, gearbox, suspension, wiring, etc. I wouldn't expect to find OBD info and in-car electronics in a Haynes manual so I'm not bothered. Also I don't have a grossly oversized 'gas guzzler' to worry about! (I just love it when I see in excess of 50mpg on the trip computer, my wife has seen 57mpg but then she drives a bit slower than me!)

It only covers the pre-facelift cars but then the dates on the manual are from 2002 to 2005 so it wouldn't would it. It covers all engines except the bigguns.

I reckoned the price I paid including postage was probably going to be no more than the group price + postage and as there was no sniff of the group buy I went ahead on my own.

Nope, or the 3.2 or even the 2.0T!!

As for what's happening, Cabby was trying to get a final price from Haynes and whether they would ship them individually to people. If they shipped them to us in one batch, and we shipped them out to people, we'd have to add on postage which may end up making hardly any saving from people just buying them themselves.

So once Cabby gets that info we can then see if there's any point in doing the group buy, or if people are better off just getting them themselves.

I think that's fair enough Duncan. Its a shame Haynes would'nt do more to help in terms of postage and offering a real discount. At the end of the day we had over 100 people interested.

I'm also disapointed that the 6 cylinder engines were not covered as well as the facelift. Haynes have a lot to answer for in my opinion.

Exactly. We're pushing them to see what the best they can do is i.e. have them shipped out to people and still with an overall significant saving to people compared to just walking into a shop and getting it. If it's only a few quid difference, people will, I'd have thought, just get it from the shop. I know I would if I was after one, and I could get it straight away.

Indeed. Not just the 6 cylinders, the 2.0T as well was excluded - so no point in me buying one. They take over five years (from it's launch) to bring it out, and when they do it's a half-cocked attempt!

I'll nudge Cabby to see if we can get a final answer from Haynes and either put this to bed finally, or move forward with the Group Buy - obviously all depending on their answer.

Strangely enough, the Hayens research and publishing factories are about 5 miles from me in Somerset. Saw them when I was driving around aimlessly.
