    Default 1.8 vvti clutch confusion

Hi guys, had my car in to the dealers on two separate occasions, clutch judder from a standing start. They kept it overnight because it's worse from a cold start. However they stated on both occasions that it drives as should. Informed them of other responses from the Forum. i.e that it seems to be a common problem and that there are new parts to fix it. They denied all knowledge of any new parts and stated that they don't have a problem with the 1.8 Vectra/signum. I've tried speaking to Vauxhall but they insist that their hands are tied because the technician hasn't reported a fault. It's really frustrating to have a one year old car that has a clutch which clearly doesn't function properly. Other people have driven my car and all have said that the clutch isn't right.I suspect that Vauxhall want me to put up with it during the warranty period so that I'll end up paying for it. A bit cynical I know. Anyway, has anyone had any success getting past the technician to get the new parts fitted by Vauxhall? I would welcome any ideas on what to do next.

demand that VX customer services supply a feild engineer and let him inspect your car from cold..The fault is very well known with 1800's and VX have issed a kit of revised parts to be fitted..

leave the dealer alone.. just deal with VX customer services and explain that the delaer you are using is being deliberatly unhelpful...

next time make sure you're there when they test it...

If they kept it in a garage it may not have been as noticable as if it was left overnight outside?

The signum was parked outside overnight at the garage. The problem is that it's really flat on all nearby roads and it takes a bit of a hill to really notice the clutch judder. I will contact Vauxhall and insist that they provide an inspection of the vehicle, although my previous experience of them would suggest my chances are slim. Thanks for your advice guys. It's much appreciated.

just mention this owners club and the fact that many other 1800 owners have had their cars repaired with updated parts...see what they do..

Mike, had exactly the same problem with my pre-facelift 1.8. Initially the dealer didn't acknowledge the problem when I reported it. However, they did take notice when I printed all threads from this forum. Took a while for parts to arrive but fitted and has been fine ever since - you will really notice the difference. Believe me its not you its the car! Good luck, Mark

    Hi Tyler
Mine had a new flywheel & clutch - apparently they change as a set in case of any contamination I think. Mine had done 22K when I bought it used and it juddered a little when I bought it but it appeared to become more noticeable after a few months (may have coincided with the weather). I believe other site members have said that they had not noticed it getting worse but it certainly appears to not get better. Others will confirm I am sure.
I would not take no for an answer - go to Vauxhall directly if your dealer will not listen. It is a definite fault. Some Astras are also affected but I believe its mainly 1.6's. My dealer told me it was a fault caused by removing asbestos from the linings of the clutch but never known if that is 100% the fault.
    Regards Mark

they replace the flywheel at he same time as the driven plate to eliminate any chance of vibrations.. if the clutch has worn the pressure plate unevenly changing the driven plate will only sort 1/2 the problem.
