Default 3.2 back from service, 2 problems

    Hi there,

This is my first post and need some advice.

Bought a Vectra GSi privately just under 2 weeks ago, took it for a service today at local vx dealer. Couple of problems they picked up and price to fix:

Oil leak from front crank seal £587.50
Slight play rear susp bushes £321.95

Do these prices seem reasonable, has anyone else had these probs?

    Thanks.

By all accounts they are dealer prices & will always be expensive, At a good independant garage you will be able to save yourself £100's of pounds. For example the top control arm bushes ( Most likely what you have play in) are £26.50 Ea + vat from a good motor factors & take approx an hour to fit.

I personally would get a well recomended garage to do the job.

I took mine in for a service last year, got charged the earth and they put a fault on for me! Next day after having it serviced the engine management light started coming on first thing in the morning. I rang them up and they said they would need it in for the day to check it out. Not wanting to spend another day in the 1.0 Corsa they lent me I plugged a new KTS200 in that we had on loan and it came up with a fuel rail pressure sensor fault/. I cleared the code and it never came back. My guess is after they changed the fuel filter and started it up it detected the drop in pressure and they never cleared the code.

It's going in tomorrow for an new inlet manifold to cure the swirl flap problem and is due for service again but its not going back to the dealers for the service. As Dean said a good garage will save you a fortune and you will probably get a better service.

    OMG!!!!...

the front crank seal oil leak job is basically a cambelt change but you go a little further and remove the lower drive pulley off the crankshaft nose, then prise out the old seal and refit a new one.. adds about 1/4hr to a cambelt change..That quote is very very overpriced IMO..

Rear Bushes..As DeanF said..more than likely the top arms which can be a g1t to change due to poor access, but even if it's the front tracking arms thats still quite dear..

you need an independant VX specialist..steer clear of the main dealers as they are massivly overcharging you

Cambelt at my stealer is £350 for a 3.2

    £350 + 15 min= £15 + part £10ish =£375 tops!

Wonder why they're called Stealers? Find a good Vx garage (a family run one like Marehay are far better than these chains!) or an even better independent one!
