I have asked Farther Christmas for some maguires polish and things,if i am good he will send me some NXT Tech wax, #21 sealant and some p21s wax.
Have i asked him for the correct things and would i be polishing my car in the best manner if i wash it [obviously] then apply the NXT, then the #21 sealent followed by the p21s. Any advice would be appreciated,mind you i will not be polishing it untill the weather gets better,do any of you know of a sealent of something that can be applied after washing to protect the paint for this weather.
Some of you seem to be experts at polishing, in the past all i have done is to wash the car and polish it with zymol, now i fancy doing a proper job of it,,

if you've been using Zymol properly then you HAVE been doing a proper job of it!!
or have you just been using the budget wash and liquid wax?

No i give the car a sort of money is no object sort of view [ don,t let the wife hear me say that though ,she thinks she comes second anyway] i belive you only get what you pay for, i have been very pleased with the zymol products, but i thought i would try maguires, as a lot of the members seem to use it, the wife,s vectra b [ my old one] i have always [and still do] use MER and i was very pleased with that too, her car still has a very good shine on it and looks like new, the rain water beads and runs off. the neighbours think i am mad, but i find it relaxing to wash and polish the car, i have treid in vain to get the wife interested, it must be a man thing.

ok the zymol you buy in halfords is not zymol in the true sense of the name and is just trading off the name of the proper waxes they produce. Its basically an all in one like autoglym super resin etc. The entry level pure wax is around £60.

The NXt wax is an all in one cleaner/polish/sealent and is a one step product. Some people use it as a cleaner to strip off old waxes etc and surface rubbish. The #21 sealent is just that. It seals the shine in and is a final stage product in itself. Some people like the look of a carnauba wax so top this with a pure carnuaba like P21s.

Personally, i'd always have something like AG superresin or NXT in my collection as it good for door shuts or underbonnet etc. What you have will do the job fine but theres lots of other options too that you could try once you get the bug

well i would agree with wot andy has said and he at the end of the day has done a lot of research into this so.

i personally use three stages maybe four but i start off

1.Megs scratch X for the swirls if required.
2.Auto Glym Super Resin.
3.Megs #21 sealent.
4.Cannuba Wax normally megs but i might give P21s a go.

and i don't have any problems with this combo.

Its always worth investing in some decent cloths too.micro fibre etc.

I have treated myself to an electric polisher, i thought it might make life easier, would it be better to put the polish on "by hand" or use the polisher, Do any others use a polisher,

polisher? a whole can of worms there. if you have bought one from say halfords then its not much use. The only purpose it will serve is take some of the effort out of applying the polish. Its not powerful enough for removing swirl marks or scratches etc

Always use the polisher to apply the polish as it gets a thin layer on that you cant acheive by hand. You then take the polish off by hand and it shoul dbe thin enough to come off very easily

No mine was not from halfords, but i am a bit dubios about it though as it runs at 2500 rpm... to me that sounds VERY fast, as to it,s power i will have to wait and try it, I understand that you have to be carefull with polisher,s as they can take the paint off if you do not keep them moving,but if they are able to put a thin layer of polish on then that is an advantage,is it better to put several layers of thin polish on to give it a good deep shine.

I use a polisher too, a Porter Cable (PC)/Meguiars G-100 (they are one and the same thing).

The PC can run at 6000rpm, I normally start on 1 and wind it up to between 4 & 5.

If it's an orbital, like the PC it won't strip or burn paint, that can happen when using a rotary.

The PC when used with certain products, for instance Megs #80 (mild) or #83 (course), will remove swirls etc.

The PC can only bought from the States so it's 110volt so you need a transformer, a plug and best to have a 110volt extension aswell.

The benefeit of the Porter Cable is that it has a big orbit as opposed to the smaller orbit of cheaper machines.
