took ownership of vectra 2.2 sxi dti recently and very nice it is.

could any vectechs explain why my fuel consumption is better using the cruise control.

i have on average achieved 50 mpg on normal motorway driving,but the figure is near 60 mpg with the cruise control, this was achieved Sunday driving 240 miles mostly using the cruise control. i thought it would be the opposite way round.

Because the throttle is kept at a constant, unless extra is needed, and of course eased off when not needed.

You try keeping to the same speed with your foot. It's very difficult to do and you end up using more petrol because you don't realise that you sometimes speed up, slow down, speed up. etc......

I agree i get better fuel consumption on cruise control, ime always on it where ever possible. Good choice of engine too.

Well done on the Rugby. A computer can think and respond quicker than a human, that is why cruise control is much more efficient.

Didn't used to be, as when it needed more throttle, it wouldn't just put a more more on. The older ones used to go to full throttle and then ease off when it reaches the correct speed.

You are right there, it is amazing how much progress has been made. My cruise control seems to mimic the conditions/speeds i was driving at just before i set the control, when i press the resume button.

Pappy's Jag does just that! Came out of a set of roadworks on the M4 once, pressed resume and the mad bastid thing kicked down two gears and shot off at full pelt back to the speed it had been set at!

First I nearly sh!t myself, then spent the rest of the journey P'ing myself laughing!
