Default EBay to ban negative seller views

    DISCUSS

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7228460.stm

I suppose it will prevent unfair negative feedback being left by vindictive eBayers, but what about the opportunity to warn other eBayers about genuine problem-sellers/buyers?

I can see their reasoning i.e. a seller gives crap service to a buyer, who has paid promptly and fulfilled their end of the deal. The buyer leaves neg feedback only for the seller to do the same out of spite.

However, what happens when the seller is the one who's fulfilling their end of the deal and the buyer is the one messing about? i.e. winning auctions but not paying etc. With the new system these time wasters won't be highlighted or known about! Flippin' stupid if you ask me and another reason why people will continue to go off eBay.

I've always thought that it should be somehow set up that the seller should be the one that has to give feedback first, as once the buyer has done their bit i.e. paid for it then they've fulfilled their side of the deal. If the buyer then isn't happy with the goods, well they can still leave neg feedback without worrying that the seller can then issue neg back as spite, even though the buyer has done nothing wrong. Of course, it's still open to abuse by buyers arseing around, but it'd be fairer than what they're proposing.

    hi
i can see were they are going with this,
but not sure that this is the right way to fix the problem.
being able to appeal againt negative feedback left may be one way,
most of them are easy to spot.

Wrong move IMO, you should still be able to leave a negative for a buyer who doesn't pay up for example.
But, I do personally believe that what they should do, is FORCE sellers to leave feedback first.
Ie; a seller does not, and cannot receive a positive feedback until they have FIRST left feedback for the buyer.
What I mean is, when payment has been received, and cleared, the buyer has completed his side, so it should be up to the seller to leave appropriate feedback first.
To many sellers don’t do this, and hold back on the feedback so they can retaliate if any buyer should leave them a negative.
That’s the biggest single issue with the bays feedback system IMO.

i think they came up with easyest and cheapest way to fix a problem.
where as you came up with the near perfect way, but might take a little time of programing to get it to work.

    2mins work for thier way
    3mins work for your way

ive tried contacting them regarding the best possible fix there could be but they just dont want to hear from you unless their contacting you for some money!

Trying to get in contact with ebay is one of the worst problems about it!

The best way they could everything, no doubt about it is just make it so neither peoples feedback is viewable untill they have both left feedback. With this system both buyer and seller can leave honest feedback without fear of retribution.

All they need to do is when one of them leaves feedback inform the other of a request to leave feedback back. That way the seller will only know of the feedback left after they have already left honest feedback!
