Default Alternator recall - 12 months later!

I was in the dealers today ordering a part and while i was there i asked if there were any oustanding recalls for my 04 cdti (thinking about the handbrake recall)

He checked on computer and found the alternator recall. He's going to find out about it and phone me back.
Just searched the forums and saw it was from over 12 months ago!

Whats the chance of me getting it done for free?

Considering i have had MOT there 6 months ago and no mention of it then, last owner had it serviced there too but will have to check on
    dates

recall work should be done FOC as it's instigated by VX themselves not your dealer..

The bloke at vx dealers told me he had to find about it because recalls have a time limit on them.
Quote "otherwise people would be bringing their cars in 4 years later"

I'm expecting a call from him tomorrow, are you saying that it should definitley be done for free? even though the recall was from Nov 2007 (i think)?

Need to know what to say to him if he tries to fob me off.

    Thanks guys

Yes. I knew nothing about the recall until my alternator went last week. I posted on here and was told to ring my local dealer to find out about a recall. I didn't know when the recall started but it didn't matter either. They just booked me in for a free alternator. Regards Bren

Car is booked in for Monday morning.
They'll need it for 1.5 hours to check the alternator, if it's one of the batch with the problems then they'll book it in again for a new one for free.

    I'm pretty impressed with that.

Another question though - will they automatically put a new alternator belt on with a new alternator? asking because mine very slightly screeches at very low revs and i know theres a modified belt which i'd like them to put on while they're there

i think it was 04/05 pre facelifts..but your local dealer will be able to tell you if there are any outstanding recalls on your car from your chassis number....on the auto there was work done to the DPF systems..
