    Default The dreaded spanner light

The spanner indicator came on my car this morning for a few seconds and went out again. It does this every thing I start it. i checked the oil and it was pretty low so I topped it up. Questions are

Does low oil level cause the spanner display to come on
If topping up the oil has sorted it how long does it take until the spanner display goes away

    cheers

Yes its a 1.9 CDTi 150. Weather here is actually a bit milder than of late. Last week was a lot colder and i had no issues.

The oil level was pretty low though. Was down at lowest level on dip stick. I had to add a litre to bring it back up.

If it is a fault light, its showing it has recorded a fault but its not an active one or it would stay on. It will go out after 25 starts if it no longer has the fault
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

I did get the spanner light illuminating after the car had stood for a few hours on colder days, Which led me to believe it was my glow plugs, I changed them & it never came back...

The only sure fire way to be certain is to get the Code read & put your mind at ease !!

You can buy a cheap code reader for £29, it may not give you a code for all the errors, But it will allow you to remove the error. If it then comes back straight away you know it is a current fault & not a historic one.

H mate, when your engine's low on oil it usually puts up a little pic of an oil can with an indication telling you its low, on mine it comes on exactly when the oil's at the Min line on the dipstick. But the car usually doesnt put the oil low indicator on until the car's been running for a while, or at least it doesnt on mine.

Whereabouts are you? If you're close to portadown I may be able to read the codes for you.

In Dublin. Thanks anyway mate. Its not using the service indicator service schedule but rather every 15k klms. When I check the service indicator it still shows 27k to go.

Its due a service however in the next few weeks so I'll get them to check the code as well. Hopefully its nothing expensive
